Roubaix (dpa) - Olympic track cycling champion Mieke Kröger hopes that women's cycling will be televised more often in the future.

"If people never get to see how we ride, then they won't even have it on their radar that we exist," the 28-year-old told Deutschlandfunk radio. Kröger is active both on the track and on the road and hopes that hosting the Tour de France in 2022 will "not be a side programme" as in many other cases.

Something also needs to change with the prize money. "300 euros for the win and then you divide that by six riders and ten per cent goes to the staff," said Kröger, describing the current circumstances. This week (20 to 24 October) she will be competing at the Track Cycling World Championships in Roubaix.
