New Movistar jersey in honour of Valverde - Astana & Arkea in different colours

The team presentation for the 2022 Vuelta a Espana, which starts on Friday, took place in Utrecht on Thursday evening. Three teams in particular attracted a lot of attention: Movistar, Astana Qazaqstan and Arkea-Samsic. The riders took to the stage in new jerseys that had never been seen live before.

For Alejandro Valverde it is the 16th Vuelta a Espana and also his last. That's why his team Movistar is honouring him with a special jersey designed by the manufacturer La Passione.
Remembering Valverde's great successes
Movistar is not riding in a blue jersey as usual this season, but in white. The jersey features small graphics reminiscent of Valverde's past successes. The new garment is also adorned with horizontal blue stripes and the blue Movistar logo.
"Alejandro Valverde is much more than just a racer," explains Giuliano Ragazzi, CEO of La Passione. "He has shaped a generation with his way of racing, inspiring children and young people around the world with his unforgettable performances and unashamedly capturing the affection of the public. We are all grateful to him for the emotions he has given us and this special jersey is a way to show it."

Astana changes colour
In addition to Movistar, Astana Qazaqstan was also the centre of attention at the team presentation on Thursday. The Kazakh team led by Miguel Angel Lopez and Vincenzo Nibali has changed the colour of its jersey and will be wearing a predominantly white jersey with dark trousers at the Vuelta. The clothing is manufactured by Giordana. The team previously raced in blue and turquoise.

Arkea-Samsic: From red to yellow
The riders of the Arkea-Samsic team are also adorned with new material, in which Nairo Quintana cancelled his Vuelta start after testing positive for Tramadol. The French team is otherwise known for its red jerseys. In Utrecht, however, the Arkea-Samsic riders could now be seen in a new neon yellow kit.

The jersey is intended to symbolise visibility for all cyclists on the roads and support "La Route se partage", a road safety campaign from Brittany. The clothing is manufactured by Ekoï.
