Der Ecuadorianer Jhonatan Narvaez hat die vierte Etappe des Giro d’Italia gewonnen.
Until shortly before the finish of the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia, it looks like a victory for a Swiss professional cyclist. But then he was caught.

The Ecuadorian professional cyclist Jhonatan Narvaez has won the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia. After 138 kilometres from Catanzaro to Cosenza, he won the sprint against Orluis Aular from Venezuela and Giulio Ciccone from Italy.

The Italian secured the overall leader's pink jersey with his third place. In the meantime, things also looked good for the German Florian Stork. However, he was no longer in the leading group at the end. He is now in third place in the overall standings. He is four seconds behind Ciccone. Swiss rider Jan Christen is in second place overall.

Attack in the old town

Like the previous stage, the fourth stage was split into two parts: The first 80 kilometres or so up to the intermediate sprint were mostly flat along the coast. It then became more mountainous. After a short plateau, the route descended into the valley and then climbed slightly again to Cosenza. The last two kilometres were winding and led into the historic old town. There Christen launched an attack. Until 400 metres before the finish, it looked as if he could win the stage. But then the Swiss rider was caught after all.

Like the third stage, the fourth stage also went off without any major crashes. On Saturday, around 35 riders went down in a mass crash. The UAE team was hit particularly hard.
