"We did some physiotherapy, but we definitely need to do a small surgical procedure on both knees. This is better to achieve a much faster and safer recovery," said Quintana in a video on social networks. He recently ended his season prematurely.
The former Giro and Vuelta winner had said last week that he would probably have to undergo surgery after breaking his left kneecap. Quintana only finished 17th in this year's Tour de France and details of a doping raid on his team emerged after the end of the race. Quintana denied all accusations in a statement at the time. "I have never doped and no banned substances were found," he added last week.
