Nacer Bouhanni runs strong marathon time in Valencia
The former top French cycle sprinter Nacer Bouhanni can also run for endurance: At the marathon in Valencia, he improved his time to 2:31 hours. A few weeks ago, former Giro winner Tom Dumoulin even managed 2:29 hours in Amsterdam

The route of the marathon in Valencia is considered to be particularly fast. Nacer Bouhanni set a new best time last weekend. The 35-year-old Frenchman ran the 42.195 kilometres in 2:31 hours. Last year, he ran 2:34 hours in his marathon debut in Frankfurt am Main. As a professional cyclist, Bouhanni was an outstanding sprint specialist. He won three stages each at the Giro d'Italia and the Tour of Spain during his career, which he retired from at the end of 2023.

Marathons attract many former cyclists as a new challenge. Tom Dumoulin, former world champion in the individual time trial and winner of the 2019 Giro d'Italia, was faster than Bouhanni just a few weeks ago. The 35-year-old Dutchman ran a time of 2:29:21 at the marathon in Amsterdam last October. The German former pro and long-time sporting director Rolf Aldag clocked 2:42:54 in Hamburg after his active career in 2006.
