The two-time winner from 2024 and 2025 is returning to the anniversary edition of the German one-day race. Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck is one of the most successful riders in the history of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, with two wins and one second place from four starts. This season, the 28-year-old has already racked up ten wins, making him one of the most successful sprinters in the peloton.
A challenging route
The route for the 20th edition covers 200 kilometres from Borken through the districts of Borken and Coesfeld to Münster. The most challenging section comes at the start of the second half of the race. Over 70 undulating kilometres through the Baumberge, several short, steep climbs follow in quick succession. After this section, there are still around 50 flat kilometres to go until the finale in Münster, which, as usual, takes the riders through the city centre on the final lap.
Jasper Philipsen expects stiff competition
The Belgian is expecting a tough race. “I really enjoy riding the Münsterland Giro and, having won it the past two years, I naturally have very fond memories of the race,” says Philipsen. Three wins in a row would be something special, but it won’t be easy. The section through the Baumberge in particular is likely to make the race a challenging one. Apart from Philipsen, only André Greipel, Jos van Emden and Marcel Kittel have won the race twice in the past.
Jasper Philipsen has had a good year
Among other achievements this year, Jasper Philipsen won the 17th stage of the Tour de France. The Belgian triumphed in a sprint from a large breakaway group in the Alps. In the spring, he claimed overall victory in the Renewi Tour after three stage wins (including stages 2, 4 and 5) and won the spring classic In Flanders Fields. Among his greatest successes was his victory in the Milan–San Remo classic in 2024. At the Tour de France in 2023, he won the Green Jersey and racked up a total of eleven stage victories.
