At the end of October, it was announced that Tadej Pogacar had terminated his contract with UAE Team Emirates. extended until 2030. The racing team from the United Arab Emirates did not provide any information about the Slovenian's salary. This is now provided by the Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to the renowned Italian sports newspaper, Pogacar is set to earn eight million euros per year at UAE - previously it was said to be seven million euros per year (bonuses not included). With a six-year term of the new contract, this amounts to 48 million euros, which the three-time Tour de France winner would certainly pocket.
This means that Pogacar is still the top earner in cycling, but is now moving into other dimensions - even across generations. The Italian sports newspaper cites Marco Pantani as an example. After his Giro-Tour double in 1998, Pantani is said to have received an offer of 10 billion Italian lira - around five million euros - from the then Mapei racing team, but decided to stay with Mercatone Uno.
Should another team be tempted to buy Pogacar out of his contract, a hefty transfer fee would be due. 200 million euros, according to Gazzetta dello Sport the release clause in the 26-year-old's contract. UAE team boss Mauro Gianetti also made it clear once again: "Tadej is not on the market."
There is also an update on Pogacar's possible race calendar for 2025, with the Tour de France once again taking centre stage, the double winner is quoted as saying in the report. He also lists Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders and the World Cycling Championships in Rwanda up. His boss Gianetti is a little more specific. Another double attempt with the Giro d'Italia or the Vuelta a Espana is not out of the question, but a start at Paris-Roubaix 2025 is.
