Erfurt/Frankfurt (dpa) - The paraplegic Olympic track cycling champion Kristina Vogel now has a personal "Barbie" doll in her wheelchair.

The toy manufacturer Mattel has thus honoured the successful sportswoman's role model function for girls, as the company announced. "I can't describe my feelings in words," Vogel wrote on her Facebook page. "I am so proud!" The doll is a one-off.

The two-time Olympic champion and record-breaking world champion collided with a young Dutch rider in a training accident on 26 June 2018 on the Cottbus cycling track. Since then, she has been paralysed from the seventh thoracic vertebra downwards.
