The 1996 Tour de France winner will step down from his position as team manager by mutual agreement at the end of the 2020 season, as NTT announced. Further discussions about the acquisition of shares in the racing team by Riis and his partners are also off the table.
Riis, who won the Tour for Team Telekom in 1996 and later admitted to doping, joined NTT Pro Cycling at the beginning of the year. The only World Tour team from the African continent is currently struggling for its future after the company NTT announced at the beginning of October that it would no longer be the team's name sponsor in 2021.
