Freiburg (dpa) - What a reception for professional cyclist Simon Geschke. When the 35-year-old arrived back at Freiburg railway station after a six-week journey that included the Tour de France, the Summer Games and the Olympic coronavirus quarantine in Tokyo, his dog completely freaked out.

In a Twitter video shared by Geschke, the French bulldog was overjoyed to see his master return home. The dog, who is just over a year old and not particularly big, even managed to throw Geschke off balance with his love attack on the platform.

"Home sweet home after almost six weeks. What a wild trip that was," Geschke tweeted. The Berlin native landed at Frankfurt Airport on Sunday evening. He had previously left the quarantine hotel in Tokyo after two negative PCR tests and was allowed to end the "most pointless journey of my career".

Geschke tested positive for the coronavirus on 23 July - one day before the Olympic road race - despite being vaccinated. Although he was not considered contagious due to his CT score of over 30, the former Tour stage winner had to go into quarantine. The maximum stay in the Corona hotel could have been 14 days.
