"The last five kilometres were so hard, I thought I wouldn't make it to the finish. It was a bit all out, afterwards I was in a lot of pain," Olympic track champion Klein, who is now also mixed world champion, told the German Press Agency. The 25-year-old laughed again and again. "I also just fell off my bike, I've rarely had that. And then I asked the physio if having children hurts just as much."
The 36-year-old Martin, like Germany's entire sixth-placed team with the gold medal from Flanders around his neck, responded calmly: "I can't judge whether having children hurts just as much now." When Klein wanted to apologise to her team-mate, the veteran immediately put things into perspective after his last race: "It's all good, I can deal with questions like that."
