Liane Lippert missed out on a medal in the women's road race at the European Cycling Championships in the Netherlands. The 25-year-old German champion from Friedrichshafen finished the race in Wijster in seventh place.
Dutch rider Mischa Bredewold secured victory after 131.1 kilometres ahead of her compatriot Lorena Wiebes and world champion Lotte Kopecky from Belgium. Bredewold pulled away around ten kilometres before the end and held on to her lead until the finish. In total, the almost 50 metre high Vamberg, a rubbish mountain with a steep and challenging cobblestone passage, had to be crossed six times during the race.
On Thursday, the mixed relay team won the bronze medal for the German team in the Dutch province of Drenthe. To round off the European Championships, the men's road race with the German team around John Degenkolb over 199.8 kilometres is on the programme on Sunday.
