Liane Lippert rode into the women's championship jersey for the second time at the German Road Cycling Championships in Sauerland.

After 122 kilometres from Siedlinghausen to the Kahler Asten, the 24-year-old from Friedrichshafen was able to hold her own in the sprint of a five-strong leading group ahead of Ricarda Bauernfeind and Nadine Gill.

"I wasn't quite sure about the sprint, but it was enough. I really wanted the championship jersey," said Lippert afterwards after her second championship title after 2018. "I put myself under pressure. It was mentally harder than in 2018, when nobody had expected me," added the DSM team rider.

Lippert takes over from Lisa Brennauer, who crossed the finish line in seventh place, 8:36 minutes behind at an altitude of around 850 metres. The Olympic track cycling team champion successfully defended her time trial title in Marsberg on Friday despite a crash shortly before the finish line.
