Last year, Oscar Onley nearly pipped German cycling star Florian Lipowitz to third place overall. This year, the Briton is not competing in France.

German cycling star Florian Lipowitz will not be going head-to-head with Oscar Onley at this year’s Tour de France. According to a statement from the 23-year-old Briton’s team, Onley will miss the 113th Tour de France due to a serious shoulder injury he sustained during the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a preparatory race. The Tour begins on 4 July in Barcelona.

Last year, Lipowitz managed to defend his third place overall on the Tour, ahead of the British rider. At times, it was a close contest between the two professionals. Onley eventually finished fourth in Paris.
