Kristina Vogel is now on a par with more than 130 other German sporting greats who have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame of German Sport due to their success in competition or their commitment to society and sport.
In addition to Kristina Vogel, Olympic biathlon champion Kati Wilhelm and boxing trainer legend Ulli Wegner have also been appointed as new members of the Hall of Fame founded by the German Sports Aid Foundation. Vogel is the first female cyclist to receive the honour. Previously, only cyclists had made it into this illustrious circle: Gustav Kilian, Wolfgang Lötzsch, Albert Richter and Kurt Stöpel.
The website of the Hall of Fame of German Sport states the following Track bike-Olympic champion: "With two Olympic victories, Olympic bronze and eleven World Championship titles, Kristina Vogel is the most successful female track cyclist in the world together with Australia's Anna Meares. In 2018, Vogel suffered life-threatening injuries in a training accident, but fought her way back to life with strong will and confidence. Her great sporting successes and how she dealt with her paraplegia as a result of the training accident make her a role model for millions of people."
The official acceptance ceremony for Vogel, Wilhelm and Wegner is scheduled for 16 November. The ceremony will take place in Dreieich near Frankfurt am Main as part of the "Golden Sports Pyramid", where tennis legend Michael Stich will be honoured for his life's work.
