Izu (dpa) - Berlin's Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt missed out on a medal in the two-man team race at the Olympic track cycling competitions.

The duo rode to ninth place in the so-called Madison over 50 kilometres on Saturday with six minus points after being lapped. Gold went to world champions Denmark with 43 points ahead of Great Britain and France, who scored 40 points each.

A crash by Kluge after a good 40 kilometres cost the Germans a better position. The experienced rider touched the rear wheel of a British rider and fell. As a result, the 35-year-old Kluge missed out on his second Olympic medal 13 years after winning silver in the points race in Beijing. Together with Reinhardt, he had dominated the Madison in recent years. The duo won the world title in 2018 and 2019 and rode to world bronze in Berlin in 2020.
