According to the organisers, the International Kids Tour in Berlin will take place again this year on the traditional date of 21-24 August. The four-stage ride will therefore consist of a prologue, an individual time trial and two circuit races. A maximum of 200 children and 50 teams in the U13 and U15 age groups can take part.
The International Kids Tour in Berlin, first organised in 1993, is the most important cycling event for children and young people in Germany and one of the very few stage races for young cyclists. That is, it was - until 2020, when it had to be cancelled for the first time due to coronavirus restrictions, and again in 2021.
However, after the successful relaunch in 2022, the traditional event was caught up in a maelstrom of obscure disputes and legal battles between the organising club Wheel Divas and the Berlin Cycling Association (BRV). It was about licences, funding and possibly also about who was in charge of Berlin cycling. As a result, the Kids Tour Berlin 2023 and 2024 did not take place. This was particularly sad for the many children and young people from Germany and neighbouring European countries, who were deprived of a high-class and attractive starting opportunity. The list of Kids Tour winners from previous years is long and prominent, including today's top professionals such as Pascal Ackermann, John Degenkolb, Maximilian Schachmann and Ricarda Bauernfeind, to name just the best-known.
