Ineos Grenadiers is the next top team in international cycling to present its new jersey for 2023. The team led by Egan Bernal, Geraint Thomas and Tom Pidcock opts for brighter colours.
In 2022, the Ineos Grenadiers outfit was still predominantly blue with red elements and white lettering. The picture is changing in the new year. Red will be the main colour of the jersey. In the photos presented by the team, the red base colour is very bright. The race kit, which can already be ordered from the manufacturer Bioracer's web shop, has a slightly darker shade of red. The new racing outfit also features an organic pattern on the right sleeve and a dark blue pattern on the left sleeve. There is also a blue stripe with white Grenadiers lettering sewn into the back, which runs into a blue stripe at the end of the jersey below the back pockets. The new shade of red is intended to "symbolise the team's plan to race with passion, courage and determination", according to the team's press release.
There is a second version of the jersey that the Ineos Grenadiers professionals wear in training. This jersey is almost completely in bright orange - also already available to order from Bioracer. Only the shoulder sections are slightly darker in red and blue. On the back, the blue stripe with the Grenadiers lettering contrasts with the bright orange colour.
The visibility and therefore safety aspect played a significant role in the choice of the orange colour. "The introduction of the distinctive orange colour is important. It will increase the visibility of our riders during the race, just like the orange kit they wear during training, and help to keep them safe on the road and support them in all conditions," says Rod Ellingworth, Deputy Team Principal at Ineos Grenadiers.
Bioracer also emphasises the visibility aspect. After all, the new jersey was presented under the slogan "Visibly Fast".
"Fast, because Bioracer's mission is to make you faster. Visible, because we believe you need to be able to ride and train all day, every day, with no restrictions on daylight or weather conditions," explains Bioracer CEO Danny Segers.
Among others, Tom Pidcock and the two Tour de France winners Geraint Thomas (2018) and Egan Bernal (2019) are under contract with Ineos Grenadiers. The Colombian celebrated his comeback in late summer 2022 after a serious training accident and wants to return to the top of the world in 2023.
A training video that Bernal posted a few days ago shows that he is highly motivated. It shows him on a 270-kilometre ride in the pouring rain.

"I'm not the one to tell you anything, but... if you have a goal, no matter what the conditions are, no matter how you feel ... go for it! No matter how bad it goes, you'll be at peace with yourself, and that's the most important thing," Bernal wrote on Twitter.
