Track cycling world champion Amy Pieters, who is in an induced coma, will be transported to her Dutch home for further treatment, her team SD Worx announced.

The 30-year-old suffered a serious fall during training in Alicante, Spain, on 23 December and was put into a coma following an operation. According to the team statement, Pieters is now breathing on her own and there have been no further changes to her state of health. Further details could only be given after the recovery process.

Pieters and Kirsten Wild have won the World Championship title in the two-man team race three times in recent years, most recently two months ago in Roubaix, France. They both missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics, finishing fourth.
