Tour de France stage winner Nils Politt has won the 105th edition of the traditional Rund um Köln race. After 199.3 kilometres, the Cologne native won solo ahead of his Dutch team-mate Danny van Poppel.
Nikias Arndt, another German, finished third on the podium. The Rhineland classic was held again for the first time after a two-year break due to coronavirus.
"It's just something nice to win at home. It was always a dream. Now I've already ticked it off. I'm delighted to win the new edition," said Politt, who celebrated his first win of the season. The 28-year-old finished 13 seconds ahead of van Poppel. The big sprinter celebrities with Dylan Groenewegen (Netherlands), Sam Bennett (Ireland) and Jasper Philipsen (Belgium) were left behind in fourth to sixth place.
