Milan (dpa) - Two years late, the Giro d'Italia will start in Budapest next year. The world's second largest cycling tour was actually due to start in the Hungarian capital in 2020. However, plans had to be changed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 105th edition starts on 6 May with the first stage from Budapest to Visegrad. According to a statement from the organisers, the following two stages will also take place in Hungary. On 7 May, an individual time trial over 9.2 km is scheduled in Budapest, followed a day later by a 201-kilometre stage from Kaposvar to Balatonfüred on Lake Balaton. The other stages will be announced at a later date.
