After this year's guest appearance in Budapest, the Giro d'Italia will start in Abruzzo in 2023.
The race starts on 6 May with an 18.4-kilometre individual time trial from Fossacesia to Ortona. One day later, a flat stage over 204 kilometres from Teramo to San Salvo awaits. This was announced by the organisers of the second most important cycling tour on Wednesday in L'Aquila.
This is the second time since 2001 that the Giro has started in Abruzzo. On the seventh stage there will be a mountain finish in the region up to Gran Sasso d'Italia. Further details about the route are not yet known. The tour ends on 28 May. The defending champion is Australian Jai Hindley from the German Bora-hansgrohe team.
