Sicherte sich auf der 13. Etappe den Sieg: Einer Rubio.

The Colombian professional cyclist Einer Rubio has won the shortened 13th stage of the Giro d'Italia. The climbing specialist came out on top ahead of Frenchman Thibaut Pinot and Ecuadorian Jefferson Cepeda; the route had been shortened by more than 120 kilometres due to poor weather conditions.

Lennard Kämna from Bremen finished eleventh in the Swiss municipality of Crans-Montana and is still sixth in the overall standings. Britain's Geraint Thomas remains the leader of the Tour of Italy.

The Italian part of the stage had been omitted. Instead of 199, the professional cyclists had to complete 74.6 kilometres and did not start until around 3 p.m. in the Swiss town of Le Chable. A few days ago, the 2469 metre high Grosser Sankt Bernhard pass, the highest planned point of this year's Giro, had already been removed from the programme due to fresh snow and the risk of avalanches.

On Saturday, the pros will tackle the 194-kilometre route between the town of Sierre in Switzerland and Cassano Magnago in the Italian region of Lombardy. After the ascent to the Sempione Pass, the Giro participants have a long flat section ahead of them.
