The Giro d'Italia 2026 is expected to start in Bulgaria. The date for the official route presentation is now also known.

As every year, the route and stages of the 109th edition of the Tour of Italy will be unveiled ahead of schedule in Rome. The date for the official presentation of the route has now been set by the organisers. On 1 December 2025 at 3:30 pm the secret will be revealed. Meanwhile, the start in Bulgaria seems to be almost set. Last year, the route presentation took an unusually long time, as no early agreement was reached between the race organisers and the starting country Albania. With the date now set for the unveiling of the route, it seems that an agreement has already been reached for the next edition of the Giro.

Giro d'Italia 2026 - important information

  • Date: 09.05. - 29.05.2026
  • 21 stages
  • Official route presentation on 01.12.2025 at 15:30

After the start in Albania this year, there could be another start in a not necessarily classic cycling nation with a start in Bulgaria. The president and owner of Giro organiser RCS Sport had already confirmed the start in Bulgaria, including three stages.

In addition to the confirmed start in the Balkan state, there was a small personal earthquake in the run-up to the race. The president and vice-president of the Bulgarian Cycling Federation were each banned for two years for violating several articles of the UCI Code of Ethics.
