Girmay as captain: Intermarché - Wanty with two Germans for the Tour de France

Intermarché - Wanty will start the 2025 Tour de France in Lille on 5 July with the aim of building on last year's success. In 2024, the team secured three stage wins and the green jersey through Biniam Girmay. The Eritrean sprinter is also leading the eight-man squad this year. Girmay is contesting his third Tour de France in a row. Last year, the 25-year-old was the first African rider to win the points classification.
Riding alongside him are Hugo Page and Laurenz Rex, two helpers who already made a significant contribution to his success in 2024. Both are contesting their second Tour of France. To provide Girmay with the best possible support, Intermarché - Wanty has strengthened the sprint train. New to the Tour team are the Belgian Vito Braet and the Dutchman Roel van Sintmaartensdijk. The latter is the first rider from the young Wanty-NIPPO-ReUz team to make the leap to the Tour de France.

Jonas Rutsch is also part of the squad. The German only joined the team this season from EF Education - EasyPost and has already impressed with several breakaway attempts. He finished sixth in Paris-Roubaix. Louis Barré is another Tour debutant in the squad. The 25-year-old Frenchman rode strongly in the spring and finished sixth in the Amstel Gold Race.
Georg Zimmermann completes the line-up as an experienced professional. The 27-year-old German is contesting his fifth Tour de France for Intermarché - Wanty. Last year, he supported Girmay in his successes and finished second himself on the stage to Issoire in 2023. In April, Zimmermann celebrated his first success in a stage race with overall victory in the Giro d'Abruzzo.
"To build on our success from the 2024 Tour de France, we have been working since August to put together a team that is fully focussed on winning stages in the 2025 edition," explains Performance Manager Aike Visbeek. "Biniam Girmay is of course our captain for sprint finishes and stages with tricky finales. We have strengthened the core around him by integrating Jonas Rutsch into our team, alongside Laurenz Rex and Hugo Page, and by regularly having talents like Vito Braet and Roel van Sintmaartensdijk ride with Biniam."
