Copenhagen/Seebrugge (dpa) - The Danish ex-professional cyclist and TV pundit Chris Anker Sørensen has died in an accident in Belgium.

The 37-year-old was hit by a car while cycling in Zeebrugge on Saturday afternoon and later died from his injuries, reported the Danish broadcaster TV 2 Sports, for whom Sørensen had worked. The cycling expert was in Belgium to report on the World Championships taking place there for the broadcaster.

Until 2018, he was a professional cyclist himself and also completed the Tour de France several times. The Danish broadcaster initially suspended its team in Belgium and offered counselling. The sports director of TV 2 Sports expressed his condolences to Sørensen's family.
