Two-time Danish Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard will not compete in any more races this season. “He is still suffering the after-effects of the broken collarbone he sustained in his crash at the Tour de France,” his team announced. This means that Vingegaard will not be competing at the World Cycling Championships in Canada from 20 to 27 September, as some had assumed.
Following the Tour, which came to an end for the 29-year-old due to a crash on Stage 15, a recovery period had been planned anyway. Vingegaard was quoted as saying that the injury had delayed the start of his training and that he would not be able to reach his peak form in the near future. The focus is on setting targets for the coming season, which he will discuss with his team shortly.
Yet Vingegaard had already been thinking about the end of his career last year. He said in an interview that he hadn’t been happy in 2025 and had subsequently made some changes together with his team.
Right up until his crash, the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France winner had enjoyed a strong season. He won the Paris–Nice stage race, the Tour of Catalonia and, to top it all off, the Giro d’Italia. By winning the Giro d’Italia, he has now claimed at least one victory in each of the three Grand Tours. Only seven other professional cyclists had achieved this before him.
