Former Tour de France stage winner Lennard Kämna has claimed his first victory in almost eleven months.
The 25-year-old won the mountain arrival in Chiclana de Segura on the fifth and final stage of the Ruta del Sol ahead of the two Italians Lorenzo Fortunato and Alessandro Covi. His team-mate Emanuel Buchmann rode to sixth place on the 146.4 kilometre stage. Dutchman Wout Poels secured the overall victory.
"Perfect start to the season after my break last year, now I'm looking forward to the next races," said Kämna. The North German, who won a stage at the Tour de France in 2020, only made his comeback in February after a nine-month break from racing. In addition to physical problems, he also had mental problems during his time out.
