The German Cycling Federation (GC) is relying on proven talent for the 2026 European Track Championships. A total of 19 athletes have been nominated for the continental title fights, which will be held for the first time in Konya, Turkey, from 1 to 5 February. The focus is particularly on Tim Torn Teutenberg, the reigning European champion in the omnium and elimination race, who wants to defend his titles. The 24-year-old rider from the Lidl Trek team is currently preparing for the season at the Tour Down Under in Australia, where he has already impressed with top ten placings in the prologue and on the first stage. Moritz Augenstein, the current world champion in scratch, is also in the German line-up. The men's endurance section is completed by Benjamin Boos, Max-David Briese, Felix Groß, Ben-Felix Jochum and the experienced Roger Kluge. Augenstein, Kluge, Boos and Briese used this year's Sixdays in Bremen as a preparation competition for the European Championships.
In the women's endurance category, German Cycling is relying on a team of six. The team will be led by Franziska Brauße, who also competed at the Sixdays in Bremen. Lisa Klein and Laura Süßemilch, two athletes who recently joined the newly founded REMBE | rad-net women team, are also in the line-up. The women's endurance team is completed by Mieke Kröger, Lena Charlotte Reißner and Lea Lin Teutenberg. The women's track foursome is one of the medal hopes, as it has been able to deliver consistently good results in recent years. In the women's short course, GC is relying on Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Sophie Grabosch and Clara Schneider, who all compete for RSC Cottbus. Maximilian Dörnbach, Nik Schröter and Luca Spiegel have been nominated for the men's sprint.
The German team offers an interesting mix of experienced athletes and up-and-coming talent. The 40-year-old Roger Kluge is one of the most experienced German track riders in the squad. The 2008 Olympic silver medallist in the points race and three-time Madison World Champion rides for the REMBE | rad-net team and brings valuable experience to the team. On the other side are younger athletes such as 21-year-old Ben-Felix Jochum from Team Lotto Kern-Haus Outlet Montabaur and 21-year-old Luca Spiegel from RV Offenbach, who are expected to continue their development on the international stage. The performance of world champion Moritz Augenstein, who caused one of the biggest surprises in German track cycling last year with his world title in the scratch race, will be particularly exciting. The 28-year-old from RSV Irschenberg now wants to prove his class at the European Championships as well.
Germany's chances of winning medals are spread across various disciplines. In the endurance field, hopes are pinned particularly on Tim Torn Teutenberg, who wants to defend his European Championship titles in the omnium and elimination race. With his performances at the Tour Down Under, the Cologne native has already shown that he is in good form. The Germans are traditionally among the medal contenders in the women's four. In the sprint events, Lea Sophie Friedrich and Pauline Sophie Grabosch in particular are among the medal contenders. The two women from Cottbus have already proven in the past that they are among the world's best.
