The German cycling classic Eschborn-Frankfurt is to take place on the traditional date of 1 May for the first time since 2019. This was announced by the organisers at a media event in Eschborn.
In 2020, the race was cancelled due to the pandemic and replaced by a virtual participatory event. In 2021, the race was postponed to the autumn due to the coronavirus, with the classic in Hesse taking place immediately before the Road World Championships in Flanders.
The organisers said that the traditional May Day date was "firmly in the calendar" again. Sporting Director Fabian Wegmann said of the route: "We have made a small but very important optimisation and bypassed the railway tracks in Frankfurt." In this way, the organisers wanted to eliminate further danger spots. At the end of the spring classics season, many German professional cyclists traditionally compete in Eschborn-Frankfurt.
