In the 2025 season, many big names from the peloton have announced the end of their careers. Time to take a look back at their greatest moments in the saddle. Here in portrait: Marta Cavalli.

A serious crash in the early years of Marta Cavalli's career did not stop her from winning numerous titles on the track. On the road, however, the young Italian did not initially record any absolute top results.

After many unsuccessful classics at the start of the 2018 season, the big surprise came. Cavalli won the Italian championships ahead of the favourites. Just one year later, Cavalli won the European Championship title in the first derny, as well as the European Championship title in the 2021 mixed relay on the road. In the same season, the Italian also switched to the FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope team (later FDJ - Suez). A good decision, as the following years would show.

Flying high before falling

In her second year, Cavalli won the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne classics for her new team in the spring and came second in the Giro d'Italia later in the season. In 2023, Marta Cavalli was successful in a stage race for the first time. After her victory in the Tour of the Pyrenees, she also won the Tour of Ardèche, taking a stage win in both races and raising hopes for more.

However, after two crashes in the 2024 season, Cavalli was unable to regain her former strength, which was not helped by her move to Team Picnic PostNL. "I can say with a clear conscience that I no longer feel part of this world, it's time to say goodbye because my work here is done," wrote Cavalli on the end of her career.
