Four stage wins and the points jersey at the Tour of Italy - it could hardly get any better for a sprinter
In the 2025 season, many big names from the peloton have announced the end of their careers. Time to take a look back at their greatest moments in the saddle. Here in portrait: Elia Viviani.

Elia Viviani's career began on the track, where he won numerous junior titles, before he signed with Team Liquigas-Doimo in 2010 and from then on also rode on the road. In the years that followed, Viviani won numerous sprint finishes and collected a total of eight European Championship titles on the track by 2015.

This was also the year in which Viviani's career on the road really took off. Now under contract with Team Sky, he celebrated his first stage win at the Tour of Italy. For the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, the Italian decided to forgo many road races - which paid off as he won gold in the omnium. Focussing on road races, he triumphed at the Hamburg Cyclassics the following season.

Four stage wins in one year

Viviani's move to Quick-Step Floors in 2018 proved to be a good decision. He entered the history books with 18 victories in one season, including Bruges - De Panne, four stage wins at the Giro and the points jersey, the Italian championship, the Hamburg Cyclassics and three stage wins at the Vuelta. Viviani also won the Cyclassics in Hamburg in 2019 and, in addition to the European Championship title on the road, also won a stage at the Tour de France.

During his time at Cofidis, INEOS Grenadiers and Lotto, Viviani won three world championship titles on the track - most recently this year at the Track World Championships in Chile. Elia Viviani says goodbye to the cycling stage at the end of the season.
