Arnaud Démare won bronze at the European Championships and silver at the Junior World Championships back in 2009, followed by a bronze medal at the U23 European Championships a year later. In 2011, Démare switched to Team FDJ as a stagiaire, became U23 world champion and took several stage wins.
Just one year later, the speedy Démare was allowed to compete for his team in the WorldTour and promptly repaid the trust placed in him. He won his first race in cycling's highest category at the Cyclassics in Hamburg. The next highlight came in 2016 with victory at Milan-Sanremo. The 2017 Tour de France, however, is likely to be remembered by Démare in two ways. Although he won the fourth stage to Vittel, he fell outside the time limit on the ninth stage and had to leave the Tour of France. He also collected a stage win at the Tour the following year - and this time arrived in Paris.
Arnaud Démare's veritable run of victories at the Giro d'Italia began with his first stage win in the 2019 season. The following year, he won four stages and the points jersey and repeated this triumph in 2022 with three stage wins and the points jersey. In addition to three French champion's jerseys, Démare also won Milan-Turin in 2020. With the dissolution of the Arkéa - B&B Hotels team, which he joined in 2023, Arnaud Démare ended his career this year.
