After winning Olympic silver, the world championship title, countless victories in World Cup races and most recently three stage wins in the Giro d'Italia Femminile, British world-class cyclist Emma Pooley officially announced her retirement from cycling this summer. However, this was also the starting signal for her professional triathlon career, which she is now tackling as part of the Tempo-Sport bikespeed.ch team.
"The time is ripe for something new. I want to retire from cycling, but not from sport. I came from running to cycling via triathlon, and I have never lost my love of multisport and especially running. I feel very privileged that I now have the opportunity to pursue the beautiful sport of triathlon professionally and see how far I can go with it," says the Brit, who has lived near Zurich for years, looking forward to a new chapter in her sporting career. She has already demonstrated with some impressive results that she is definitely a force to be reckoned with at world-class level in this sport: Her victory at the Swissman 2013, a second place at the Half Ironman in Rapperswil and her world championship title at the Powerman duathlon in Zofingen with a new course record are clear signs of her strength. A second place at the Jungfrau Marathon just a few days after Zofingen also shows that the strong cyclist can also keep up with the best on foot.
"In 2015, I would like to get closer to the world's best on the Ironman distance. For 2016, a start at the legendary Ironman Hawaii would certainly be an option. But the competition is strong and I'm aware that it will be a tough road," says Pooley, describing her goals and expectations.
