Emanuel Buchmann has found a new team. From the coming season, the Ravensburger will be riding for Cofidis at the start. The French World Tour team announced the signing of the 31-year-old, who is currently still with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe was officially announced on Wednesday.
"After ten seasons at Bora-Hansgrohe, I really wanted something new, a new environment and a different team culture," Buchmann is quoted as saying in the Cofidis press release. The French team sees great potential in its new signing: "Emanuel is a rider who can compete with the best riders in the world, and his arrival in our structure is a new challenge," says Cedric Vasseur, the team boss.
Buchmann, who finished fourth in the Tour de France in 2019, is set to try his luck in the Grand Tours next year, where he is likely to take over the role of Guillaume Martin, who is moving to Groupama-FDJ. "We want to enable him to reach his best level again in 2025, and he will of course be our trump card for the overall classification of the grand tours," says Vasseur.
Simon Geschke, a German professional, is already under contract with Cofidis. However, the 38-year-old is hanging up his bike at the end of the season. The Berliner was probably not entirely uninvolved in the signing of Buchmann. "I had spoken a lot with Simon Geschke about the team," explained Buchmann.
