The Ecuadorian professional cyclist Jhonatan Narváez has won the eleventh stage of the 109th Giro d'Italia. The 29-year-old beat Spain's Enric Mas in a final sprint along the Ligurian coast over the 195 kilometres between Porcari and the town of Chiavari, which were hilly towards the end. The Italian Diego Ulissi finished third.
No German pro made it into the top ten riders. Nico Denz rode in a leading group for longer. The Red Bull pro had celebrated his greatest successes at the Giro in recent years. The 32-year-old has three stage wins to his name. However, he dropped back into the peloton with just under 60 kilometres to go.
As expected, nothing changed in the overall standings. Giro discovery Afonso Eulálio from Portugal remains at the top, 27 seconds ahead of two-time Danish Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard and 1:57 minutes ahead of Dutchman Thymen Arensman.
A similar stage awaits the pros on Thursday. It starts off flat between Imperia and Novi Ligure, before two third-category climbs towards the end of the 175 kilometres. The 21-stage tour ends in Rome on 31 May.
