Grenchen (dpa) - The Dutch women have set a new world record in the team sprint at the start of the European Track Cycling Championships in Grenchen, Switzerland.

Shanne Braspennincx, Kyra Lamberink and Steffie van der Peet needed 46.759 seconds in the qualification. Since last year, the women's team sprint has been held with three riders; only at the Olympic Games did two riders form a team because the qualification was run in this mode.

Pauline Grabosch (Erfurt), Lea Sophie Friedrich (Cottbus) and Alessa Catriona Pröbster (Offenbach) finished third in the qualification in 47.527 seconds. The medals will be awarded in the evening.
