The date of the Deutschland Tour 2024 has been fixed since October 2023: 21 to 25 August. The organiser has already revealed some details about the route. The start location has now also been announced, allowing a rough outline of the route to be sketched out. The prologue to the Deutschland Tour will take place in Schweinfurt on 21 August and the first stage will also start in the independent city in the administrative district of Lower Franconia.
In the past two years, a short urban course has caused a stir in both Weimar and St. Wendel. There should also be excitement in Schweinfurt when the decision as to who will receive the Deutschland Tour leader's jersey for the first time is a matter of a few seconds.
The prologue will be followed on 22 August by the first stage of the Deutschland Tour 2024, which will start in the northern Bavarian city. "Schweinfurt will attract national attention as the starting point for the Deutschland Tour 2024," says Schweinfurt's Lord Mayor Sebastian Remelé. Where the stage will lead is still unknown to date (22 February 2024). The stage locations published so far are Schwäbisch GmündVillingen-Schwenningen and the destination Saarbrücken.
The bicycle has long played a special role in Schweinfurt. For example, the freewheel was invented here. Schweinfurt is also no stranger to the Deutschland Tour. The tour last made a guest appearance here in 2006 as the finish of the 3rd stage.
Matthias Pietsch, Managing Director of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Radsports, emphasises Schweinfurt's role in the Deutschland Tour 2024: "Schweinfurt will be a cornerstone of the Deutschland Tour 2024. With the exciting prologue, Schweinfurt will play a special role as the starting point. It is unique for visitors to experience every single pro up close and personal and to be part of the battle for precious seconds. With the start in Lower Franconia, the course to Baden-Württemberg and the finale in Saarland, the tour has a common thread. We are looking forward to the return to Bavaria."
