Schwäbisch Gmünd is to be the finish of the second stage and the start of the third stage of the Deutschland Tour 2024. This was announced by the organisers on Thursday. Before the city in the Ostalbkreis district, Villingen-Schwenningen had already been publicised as another stage location for the coming year. This is where the third stage, which starts in Schwäbisch Gmünd, will lead.
"The core of the Deutschland Tour has been finalised! We are looking forward to Schwäbisch Gmünd and the Ostalbkreis as our hosts. We will be spending the majority of stage 2 and the entire stage 3 in the Ländle. Here we will meet many cycling fans and a terrain that allows for an exciting route," says Matthias Pietsch, Managing Director of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Radsports, in the organiser's press release.
The Deutschland Tour is part of the UCI Pro Series and is therefore below the UCI World Tour, the premier league of international cycling. In 2023, it was won by Belgian Ilan van Wilder (Soudal - Quick Step) ahead of Felix Großschartner (UAE Team Emirates) and Danny van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe).
In 2024, the Deutschland Tour begins on 21 August and ends on 25 August. It will therefore overlap next year with the Vuelta a Espanawhich runs from 17 August to 8 September. In the meantime Saarbrücken as the destination of the Deutschland Tour 2024 fixed. Here is an overview of the stage locations that have been finalised so far.
