Isaac del Toro, who finished third in the Tour de France, has won the prologue of the 40th Deutschland Tour. The Mexican clocked the fastest time of just 3 minutes and 8 seconds on the 2.6-kilometre road circuit in Bad Orb, Hesse, thereby claiming the first leader’s jersey. In second place, one second behind, was the French Cyclassics winner Paul Magnier, followed by the Belgian Laurenz Rex (0:05).
The best German was Tobias Müller from Hagen, who finished tenth, seven seconds behind. German time trial champion Nils Politt also put himself in a good position by finishing twelfth, with the same time gap. Germany’s best all-round rider, Florian Lipowitz, is not competing following his collarbone fracture at the Tour de France.
On Thursday, the Deutschland Tour continues with the first stage, a 215.3-kilometre route from Bad Orb to Schwäbisch Hall, which takes the riders over undulating terrain.
