Deventer (dpa) - Professional cyclist John Degenkolb from Gera is returning to the German team DSM. As the team announced, the 32-year-old has signed a contract until the end of 2024. He already rode for the team between 2012 and 2016, albeit under a different name at the time.

Most recently, Degenkolb wore the jersey of the Belgian racing team Lotto Soudal. However, he celebrated his greatest successes before that. The winner of the Paris-Roubaix and Milan-Sanremo classics also won the points jersey at the Tour of Spain and collected a total of 36 victories with Team DSM.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back into the culture of the team, integrating myself into the sprint train and the classics faction and being part of the group that chases stages at Grand Tours," said Degenkolb about his return for the 2022 season. "Personally, I also have the goal of growing into the role of road captain and the team is the perfect place to do that."
