The 2020 Giro d'Italia winner is leaving Ineos Grenadiers to sign with Lidl-Trek for two years. Before his time at Sky and later Ineos, Geoghegan Hart rode for Hagens Berman Axeon before switching to Sky in 2016. Now a new chapter begins for the 28-year-old, whose team-mates in the future will include top riders such as Mads Pedersen (2019 Road World Champion).
After his serious crash at the Giro d'Italia this year, in which he suffered a broken hip, Geoghegan Hart wants to get back to his old level before attacking again in the grand tours. "Personally, I see myself as a Grand Tour rider, but I'm really hungry to fight for victories in every race I enter during the season," the Briton is quoted as saying on the Lidl-Trek website.
"Tao Geoghegan Hart's dedication and perseverance epitomise the spirit of Lidl-Trek. His journey is a testament to the power of determination and we are delighted to welcome him to our team." Luca Guercilena, Manager of Lidl-Trek.
At the end of May 2023, Hart's new team announced that it had entered into a new partnership with Lidl. The previous sponsor and partner Segafredo Zanetti, who gave the team its name at the time, was replaced. The Lidl-Trek team celebrated its debut in the new jerseys at the 2023 Tour de France.
