Professional cyclist Wout van Aert has secured his second stage win at the 74th Critérium du Dauphiné, further extending his lead in the overall standings.

Bora pro narrowly beaten by Van Aert

After 162.3 kilometres from Thizy-les-Bourgs to Chaintré, Van Aert won the sprint against his compatriot Jordi Meeus from Team Bora-hansgrohe and the Briton Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers).

On the two previous days, van Aert had to settle for second place after his opening victory. among other things, because he cheered too early once.

Breakaway caught up shortly before the finish

Just before the finish line in Chaintré, the peloton was able to catch four escapees who had broken away after just 30 kilometres from the start.

In the overall standings, van Aert leads by 63 seconds ahead of Mattia Cattaneo from Italy and by 66 seconds over his Slovenian Jumbo-Visma team-mate Primoz Roglic.
