Gewann auch die vorletzte Etappe der Dauphiné-Rundfahrt: Jonas Vingegaard.

Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard is on the verge of overall victory in the Critérium du Dauphiné long-distance race. The Danish professional cyclist won the difficult penultimate stage and extended his lead in the overall standings. It was his second stage win in this year's edition.

Vingegaard soloed to victory on the seventh section up to the Col de la Croix de Fer, the third tough climb of the day. The 26-year-old from Team Jumbo-Visma is now 2:11 minutes ahead of Great Britain's Adam Yates and 2:24 minutes ahead of Australian Ben O'Connor.

Second on the almost 148-kilometre stage through the Alps was Yates, 41 seconds behind, while third place went to Australian Jai Hindley from the German team Bora-hansgrohe, 53 seconds behind Vingegaard. The best German was Hindley's team-mate Emanuel Buchmann in 25th place, three and a half minutes behind the winner.

The Tour of the Dauphiné traditionally serves as a test for the Tour de France, which starts in three weeks' time. The race ends this Sunday in Grenoble.
