Geht als Gesamtführender in den letzten Tag beim 74. Critérium du Dauphiné: Primoz Roglic.

One day before the end, professional cyclist Primoz Roglic has taken the overall lead in the 74th Critérium du Dauphiné.

Van Aert relinquishes yellow jersey

The 32-year-old Slovenian took the yellow jersey from his Belgian team-mate Wout van Aert after the seventh stage of the WorldTour tour through south-east France. Van Aert had worn the jersey since his opening victory at the start.

After 134.8 kilometres from Saint-Chaffrey to Vaujany, Spaniard Carlos Verona secured the day's victory as a soloist. Roglic finished in second place, 13 seconds behind, followed by his Danish team-mate Jonas Vingegaard. Three-time Vuelta winner Roglic now leads the overall standings ahead of Vingegaard by 44 seconds ahead of the final day. Third behind the 2021 Tour runner-up is Australian Ben O'Connor, a further 40 seconds behind.

Froome drops out

However, the race is over for four-time Tour winner Chris Froome three weeks before the start of the Tour de France. The 37-year-old Briton did not start the seventh stage. "It's disappointing, but my progress so far has been good and I don't want to risk a setback at this important stage of the season," said Froome.

The final stage ends on Sunday after 138.8 kilometres from Saint-Alban-Leysse at an altitude of 1495 metres with a mountain finish on the Plateau de Salaison. The Dauphiné traditionally serves many riders as a final Tour gauge. On 1 July, the 109th Tour of France starts in Denmark's capital Copenhagen.
