After the many cases of coronavirus at the men's Tour de Suisse, the female cyclists have now also suffered their first infections at their edition of the traditional Swiss tour.

Rider Sandra Alonso from the Ceratizit-WNT team and a member of the Andy Schleck team tested positive for the coronavirus. As a precautionary measure and in consultation with the Tour management, both teams withdrew early. This left 86 riders to start the 124-kilometre third stage from Vaduz to Chur on 20 June.

At the end of the men's Tour, three-time road cycling world champion Peter Sagan was caught out the day before, having tested positive for coronavirus for the third time in 18 months. Before the Slovakian, who won the third stage of the Tour of Switzerland, more than 40 riders had already had to end the race due to the corona pandemic.
