Four months after announcing her switch to professional cycling, former professional boxer Sophie Alisch has taken an important step on her path to a career in cycling: the 23-year-old is joining the women's professional team CANYON//SRAM-zondacrypto. Alisch will ride for the so-called Generation Team, the development team of the team that won the overall classification of the Tour de France Femmes in 2024 with Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney.
After more than ten years in boxing, a professional record of 10-0 victories, as a member of the Olympic squad and the German national team as well as several German championship titles and medals at European and World Championships, the Berlin native is now focussing her sporting ambitions on road cycling. According to her management, the Generation Team serves as a springboard: if she performs well, the athlete can be considered directly for World Tour races. Her big goal for the future is to take part in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
"I'm leaving behind familiar comfort zones and years of success in the boxing ring," says the former martial artist. "The switch to professional cycling is more than just a change of sport for me - it's an opportunity to redefine my limits and consistently pursue my dream of the 2028 Olympics."
Sophie Alisch's training base is Mallorca, where she has been working hard for months to transfer her skills from boxing to the demands of the road bike. Ronny Lauke, team manager at CANYON//SRAM, is optimistic that the newcomer will be able to establish herself quickly in cycling: "Sophie is ambitious, focussed and determined, and this attitude alone will help her a lot. We look forward to accompanying her on her journey and helping her to get the best out of herself as a cyclist."
