Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe), stage winner on Eurosport:
"The plan was actually different. I managed to get into the breakaway and enjoyed it there. It's really incredible to be in the yellow jersey and to have won the stage. I have no words for it. I wanted to make up as much time as possible and win the stage. I succeeded and I'm proud of that. I didn't really know what to expect from my first Tour de France, so I didn't have huge ambitions. Nevertheless, I am of course here to compete with the other riders at the highest level and to celebrate success. The fact that I have now won a Tour de France stage is truly incredible."
Rolf Aldag, sports director at Bora-Hansgrohe on Eurosport:
"Everything went according to plan. No, of course not! What happened today was not our plan. Our plan was to ride aggressively, always at the front. It was actually more or less a coincidence with Hindley that he was in the lead group. We were surprised how much freedom the breakaway group was given. Konrad did a brilliant job because he rode actively. Jai has spent so much time preparing for the Tour - he knew the conditions here. His hard work paid off today."
Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), fourth on the ARD stage:
"We rode very fast up the last climb today and when Felix Gall and Jai Hindley pulled away, I decided to stay with Giulio Ciccone. That went quite well. The result was perfect in the end. Jai was super strong, he won the thing here with aplomb. We didn't expect that before the stage. Vingegaard, who came flying up the last climb, took quite a risk on the last descent - but it was still okay because it was dry. Konrad was actually only supposed to be in the lead group, then Jai and I were well positioned - that's how it went."
Nils Politt (Bora-Hansgrohe), in a media round at the team bus:
"Of course we are super happy. All of a sudden the big group left and Jai (Hindley; editor's note) was in it, just like Emu (Buchmann; editor's note). Our plan was actually to be in there with Patrick Konrad. Of course, that was a luxury problem for us. We were able to disrupt a bit at the back so that the group rode away first. To already have the stage win and the yellow jersey after stage 5 is almost a perfect Tour. Nevertheless, we have to work hard from tomorrow."
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), at Eurosport:
"Our plan was to be in the breakaway group - we managed that. The guys did a good job. I still felt good on the last climb, stepped on the gas and attacked. I concentrated on myself. When I feel fit, I try to attack. Pogacar never gives up, I'm sure of that. Hindley was in the breakaway, where you have to expend a lot of energy, which is why we chose our tactics that way."
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), on Eurosport:
"It wasn't that difficult today, Jonas Vingegaard was just extremely fast. I had to let go on the last climb, but I feel good. I'm hoping for the next few days. The fact that we let such a big group go was perhaps not the best thing, but everything is still going well. We're hoping for better results tomorrow. I know my limits so that we can ride stronger tomorrow."
