Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - The British women's track cycling foursome has set another world record at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Katie Archibald, Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand completed the first lap of the 4000 metres in 4:12.152 minutes on Saturday. They beat the record set by the Americans a few minutes earlier by 13 hundredths of a second. The British women, who had already started with a world record, will now also meet the USA in the final. The German foursome had already been eliminated in qualifying.

This means that the track cycling competitions are still in British hands. On Friday, the men's quad led by superstar Bradley Wiggins had already set two world records within an hour and won gold. The British team sprinters also became Olympic champions again.
