Raubling (dpa) - The German cycling team Bora-hansgrohe is pushing ahead with its squad planning for 2022 and has signed former Giro runner-up Jai Hindley.

The 25-year-old Australian, who finished second in the Tour of Italy in 2020, has signed a three-year contract with Team DSM, as announced by the team from Raubling in Upper Bavaria. Hindley will "certainly" be deployed by the team towards the overall classification, said official Ralph Denk.

"We don't think that second place at the Giro 2020 is the end of the line and will continue to work together to get more consistency in his performance," Denk added. This means that Bora-hansgrohe now has a third professional, alongside the German Emanuel Buchmann and the Dutchman Wilco Kelderman, who can compete for top places in the overall classification in the grand tours. In addition to Hindley, Sergio Higuita (24/Colombia) and Marco Haller (30/Austria) are also moving to Bora-hansgrohe. They will also receive three-year contracts.
